LET THERE BE BOOKS!

Chris Bradshaw is the founder of The African Library Project (ALP), a grassroots organization that establishes small libraries for African schools and villages.

ALP partners with individuals, schools and Churches in the San Francisco Bay Area to launch book drives for children in Africa.  The books are then shipped directly to communities in Africa that request them.

The mission of the African Library Project is to increase literacy in Africa by creating and improving small libraries.
In the Words of the Champion

What is your vision for children of the world?
I dream of a world where all children, young and old, know love and have the resources to reach for their dreams.

What is your personal motto?
My personal mantra is: Get out of the way!  I say this to myself when my personal insecurities threaten to overwhelm me in the face of all the new challenges I face in my work.

How does OWCF support your vision?
OWCF fiscally sponsors the African Library Project, allowing us to seek funding opportunities that would otherwise not be available to us. OWCF organizes Champion Days, which are sharing/learning opportunities creating connective tissue between organizations with similar issues and a passion about improving the lives of some of the least advantaged people of the world. OWCF encourages me, inspires me and informs me of resources I might not otherwise know about.

Why do we need Champions in the US?
As Americans, we are largely ignorant about the realities of life in the poorest corners of the planet.  Champions have seen first hand these challenges and do not succomb to overwhelm, but work to share the incredible wealth of resources in the U.S. with people in other countries who are also working hard to improve their lives.
